芸術か否かという問題の上に、写真はある─ 。

そう断言する篠山は、50年代後半から今日まで、常に時代を先駆け話題をさらい、第一線で活躍し続けてきました。本展は、今まで美術館での回顧的な展覧会を拒みつづけてきた篠山が満を持して世に問う、国内美術館初の大規模な個展「篠山紀信展写真 力 THE PEOPLE by KISHIN」(東京オペラシティアートギャラリー、2012年10月3日〜12月24日)の開催にあわせ、60年代の貴重な作品が集結した篠山の原点ともいえる写真集「The Sixties by Kishin」の作品を展示致します。

The question of “whether it is art or not” lies within Photography, says Kishin Shinoyama, who has been at the cutting edge of photography from the late 1950’s to today and has continued to attract attention. Coinciding with Shinoyama’s long awaited first solo exhibition in a museum in Japan, “SHASHIN-RYOKU THE PEOPLE by KISHIN” (ART GALLERY TOKYO OPERA CITY 2012.10.3-12.24), this exhibition features important works from his 1960’s photo book “The Sixties by Kishin”, which marked the beginning of his career.
